When the results of the National Geographic-Roper
2002 Global Geographic Literacy Survey were released, they
revealed that young adults (aged 18 - 24) in America scored second
to last (out of the nine countries represented) in their knowledge
of geography. More shocking was the revelation that approximately
11% of the Americans polled couldn't even locate the US on a map!
Geography should not be an abstract concept; there are plenty
of ways you can present the subject so that it catches your child's
attention . . .
